West Side Highway

The time was 6:18 am, and the sun was starting to rise as I was jogging up the West Side Highway heading into Midtown Manhattan.

With about a mile to go before arriving at one of the many 42nd Street subway stations, which was to be my ending spot, I began to pick up speed because I wanted to finish strong. Let’s go!

In full stride now, I soon came upon the Circle Line Pier 83 entrance, which was to my left on the West Side Highway. For those of you who grew up in the #NYC area, there’s a good chance that seeing the Circle Line sign will trigger some pleasant childhood memories.

As for me, the second I saw those big bright red letters, it immediately brought back fond memories of me cruising around the city with my folks during my teenage years. As you might expect, it put a massive smile on my face. 😊

Realizing where I was, I knew that the Intrepid Museum was only a short distance away, so I decided that I would slow down a bit and intentionally enjoy the sights and sounds of this area.

Indeed, I usually blow right past Pier 86 without giving it much attention, but I chose to give it my full attention on this day.

So after zipping underneath and through the overpass where the Intrepid is docked, I suddenly decided to change my route and jog across the overpass to get to the other side of West Side Highway.

Since this is something that I’ve never done before, I thought it was wise to journal my thoughts and take a couple of photos along the way.

So off I went without breaking stride, and in a matter of minutes, I was power walking on the overpass while capturing my thoughts in real-time. I ended up stopping a few times to take some pics to add to my photo journal, which only took a couple of seconds.

Then, as I was snapping my last pic, I noticed a bird flying over the Intrepid, coming right at me as if it was posing for the camera. Love it!

I thought the imagery was spectacular, and as I stood there, just taking it all in, I could also hear the distinct sound of the bird shouting as it glided by me. In a word, Breathtaking!

After this lovely experience, I sat down on the sidewalk for five minutes to complete this journal entry on my iPhone, and I figured that I would share it with you on this windy and raining day in the Big Apple.

Well, friends, that’s the latest installment of Mr. Anthony Sledge embracing and enjoying the present moment. Bear in mind that the time I spent jogging to snapping a few pics, and completing this journal entry all happened in less than 17-minutes. Lol!

Until we meet again on Saturday at 11 am EST, I wish you a safe and relaxing Sunday. Have a terrific week ahead!
